Sugar and Spice and all things Nice

3 Dec

Yay! Christmas is fast approaching (22 sleeps till Christmas, SAY WHAT!?). At the shops on the weekend I got to choose an early Christmas gift so I made a beeline for The Body Shop to see what awesome smelling gifts they had in store, and they did not disappoint! Upon entering the store, they had the New Limited Edition Christmas season range on display out the front and the Spiced Vanilla range caught my eye nose (as I am a sucker for anything vanilla scented). The range also includes Cranberry Joy and Jolly Orange.

Even after browsing and smelling the entire contents of the store, my mind was made up. I WANTED the Spiced Vanilla goodies. Nothing compared to THAT SCENT! It’s sweet in an exotic way and it should come with a Warning: “Please refrain from licking/eating these products, they are not edible even though you may think otherwise”.

Spiced Vanilla Body Lotion (250ml, $22.95) - A lightly fragranced body moisturiser containing Community Fair Trade Sesame Oil. Delicately fragranced with the deliciously sweet scent of vanilla with a hint of spice. All the goodies in the christmas range include Community Fair Trade ingredients. The body lotion contains Community Fair Trade Sesame Oil, The Body Shop buy this Community Trade sesame oil from the Juan Francisco Paz Silva Co-operative. Their trade helps the 275 members receive a sustainable income.

The lotion is very light and easy to apply (which is why I opted for it over the body butter) and comes as a pump pack (WIN!). This baby resides on my bedside table and I am constantly slathering it on because it smells A.W.E.S.O.M.E! It’s very moisturising (from the sesame seed oil and cocoa seed butter) and it absorbs quickly so you aren’t left with any oily/sticky residue. I can’t stop using this, it’s everything you could want in a body lotion. The only bad thing? That it’s Limited Edition. Waaahhhhhh! :’(

Spiced Vanilla Body Scrub (200ml, $27.95) - Delicately fragranced with the deliciously sweet scent of vanilla with a hint of spice. Leaves skin exfoliated and smooth. Contains Community Fair Trade Honey. The Body Shop use Community Trade honey from Ethiopia. Their trade enables African beekeepers to practise traditional beekeeping, using hives handcrafted from locally sourced materials. This method helps promote strong, healthy bees and deters logging.

I love The Body Shop scrubs and this one is right up there! The product is very gritty and it sure does “scrub”. I recommend using a pair of exfoliating gloves with this product as all the gritty pieces will get lost in a loofah and your hands, while they could be used, probably just won’t cut it. Anything  bad? Not with the product itself, but it is quite tricky screwing the lid back on when you have exfoliating gloves on, AND they are covered in product.

Spiced Vanilla Lip Balm (15ml, $9.95) - Delicately fragranced with the deliciously sweet scent of vanilla with a hint of spice. A moisturising balm with delicate shimmer and Community Fair Trade Beeswax to leave the lips soft and smooth. The Community Trade beeswax is supplied by Guide D’Espoir in Cameroon. It comes from hives handcrafted from locally sourced materials in the remote Adamaoua region. This traditional method of beekeeping helps promotes strong, healthy bees and deters logging.

I originally wasn’t going to get a lip balm, but the sales lady said it was really good and now I’m so glad that I did – because IT IS REALLY GOOD! It smells divine, it’s ultra moisturising and it leaves a slight shimmer on your lips. This balm has taken over from my beloved Paw Paw ointment (thought I’d give her a little rest as she works overtime the poor thing). And a little bit goes a looooong way (be careful not to apply too much) so I foresee this tin of vanilla-ry goodness will last forever and will be sitting on my work desk for awhile.

So if you find yourself wandering aimlessly around the shopping centre, like myself, trying to think of an awesome christmas gift idea, then head to The Body Shop for a bit of a looksie (seriously, even if it is just to smell the range, it’s so yummy). Not only will the recipient love it, you will be helping The Body Shop in its support for community fair trade, and I think that in itself is a glorious thing… the excellent body products you get as well? Just icing on the Christmas pudding really!
