Cloud Nine ‘The Wand’

27 Apr

I’m very, very excited to bring you an exclusive first look at a new tool from Australia’s cult beauty brand, Cloud Nine.

Following on from the success of the Cloud Nine Irons and The O, Cloud Nine Australia leads the way with the international debut of The Wand. This May, beauty buffs and top stylists will finally see the release of a new product, The Wand (RRP AU$270). A curling tool like no other, The Wand will land in Australia ahead of a worldwide release, offering super-styling capabilities combined with the most innovative technology.

Today I had the absolute privilege of visiting Cloud Nine head office in Brisbane to preview The Wand. I sat down with Cloud Nine Creative Director, Lauren McCowan who told me everything there is to know about the new curling tool and also did a styling session using The Wand to show me just how easy it is to use.

the wand with heat guard cover

wand without cover

A long, cone-shaped black barrel makes for a sexy, streamlined aesthetic, with The Wand giving users a style scope to create soft finger waves, loose beach curls or tight ringlets. The length of the barrel, combined with the difference in diameter from the base to the tip, allows for more creativity when styling. A ceramic black barrel features patented technology leaving hair with the finish and gloss of a Cloud Nine styling iron, for that just-stepped-out-of-the-salon look.

Cloud Nine’s signature feature, a highly advanced temperature gauge, suits the full hair scope from super-fine to curly and thick. Dial down to a lower temperature for longer, looser waves, or move the temperature up to create more structured, tighter curls.

Advanced heat technology gives great curl in just a few seconds. Wrap a section of hair around the barrel and release, creating a look that lasts, served with a side of shine. For that session-stylist edge, The Wand comes with two protective accessories, a two finger glove (ala Michael Jackson in “Bad”) to allow total control over The Wand and a heat guard that will protect those wandering little fingers around the house.

A host of the best accessories complete The Wand, with the all-important hibernation mode; can’t-tangle-it-if-you-tried swivel cord and heat guard for a quick style and store. Landing in top salons across the country in the first week of May, The Wand is sure to sell out as fast as it curls.

gorgeous packaging

Like the Flat Iron, The Wand’s barrel is infused with Korean rock mineral coating, which is what makes it so unique. This special coating, combined with the low heat, is the secret to long-lasting, shiny, moisture infused hair. The motto ‘Less heat, more style’ rings true with all their products, and The Wand is no exception. These tools are the key to keeping hair styles in place for longer (which is so rare for a dead straight fine-haired lass like myself) not to mention maintaining the health of your hair. My hair was still “straight-outta-the-salon” swoon worthy a few hours later!

The Wand is longer than most conical wands, giving you that little bit extra length and diameter to play with, depending on what curl you want to achieve. It is super easy to use, just pull a section of hair out 90˚ from the head, hold wand at the section where you want the curl to start with the rubber tip of the wand facing downwards diagonally, and then proceed to wrap the hair around the desired diameter of the wand, and in 4-5 seconds, pull the wand upwards out of the curl and wahlahh!! To do my whole head seriously took less time than if I were to straighten my hair. Being that you don’t have to hold the curl for longer than a few seconds means that you’ll have a head full of Victoria’s Secret worthy curls in less than 15mins.

The temperature gauge on the wand offers 3 temperatures: Low – 125℃, Med – 150℃ and High – 175℃. If you want loose beachy curls, then the low to medium settings are best, or you can dial the gauge up to high for those tight curls.

I’m already in love with this tool – hours later, my hair is still super duper bouncy and curly and just quietly, I’m loving myself just a little bit. Haha! But seriously, who wouldn’t with hair like this?

Brushed out curls

Hours later, still perfect

This tool will be used at Rosemount Australia Fashion Week where Lauren McCowan (Cloud Nine Creative Director) will be joined by the finest in the hair industry – Jon Pulitano, Paloma Rose Garcia and Mathew Jones of Oscar Oscar Salon to create ground breaking looks for some of the hottest labels around. Cloud Nine are the major hair partners for Camilla & Marc, Therese Rawsthorne, Alice McCall, Shakuhachi and Lisa Blue.

Armed with the tools to create volume, curl and shiny straight locks, keep your eyes peeled to Hip & Haute for an exclusive look at the Cloud Nine creations from backstage at RAFW 2011.

For Cloud Nine stockists, please call 1300 C9hair (1300 294 247)

If you’re as keen as a bean to get your hands on this nifty wand when it comes out mid-May, then keep a look out at leading salons Headcase Hair, Togninis, Luxe Concept Salon and Oscar Oscar salons nationwide.

cheap and cheerful haulage feat. NYX

26 Apr

It’s close to the end of a loooooong weekend (6 day weekend FTW) so please excuse my ability to think clearly and write something witty on my blog today, my brain is still thinking it’s Saturday… or Sunday? Gosh I don’t even know… what day is it??

So I’ve got some pretty pictures for you from a haul I did featuring all NYX cosmetics – if you are looking to do a little bit of make up shopping but don’t want to spend too much moolah, then look no further than NYX! You can afford to scoop up some beauties without sacrificing on quality (or food for the week).

Front (L-R) NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in “Sweet Heart” and NYX Powder Blush in “Peach”

Back (L-R) NYX 5 Colour Shadow The Carribbean Collection in “I Dream of Barbados” and NYX For Your Eyes Only 10 Colour Shadow in “Smokey Eyes”

NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in 104 Sweet Heart (AU$8.99) in a nude pink gloss with shimmer. It’s not an icky sticky and it goes well over lipsticks.

NYX Powder Blush in 06 Peach (AU$14.99) is a light pink blush that goes on well. You can build up to your desirable colour and lasts all day.

These were both purchased from Groove Accessories store at Westfield Chermside.

NYX 5 Colour Shadow The Carribbean Collection in “I Dream of Barbados” (AU$16.99) was also purchased from Groove Accessories store at Westfield Chermside. I liked the look of the light colour far left and the purple colour far right.

NYX For Your Eyes Only 10 Colour Shadow in “Smokey Eyes”. I paid about AU$10.99 for this on eBay. I purchased this after seeing Almeida from MakeUp-Barbie do a EOTD with it.

This palette is great to use for an easy smokey eye look (there is even a 3 step guide on the packaging). I also like that they are all neutral colours that I can mix with other eyeshadows.

NYX is worth checking out, I find that they are pretty good quality for the price. If you don’t have access to Groove or any other shop that sells NYX for that matter, there are plenty of Australian online stores that sell it, such as:

Benefit Brow Bar – Putting the WOW into your BROWS!

25 Apr

Let me start by saying I’m a past victim of overplucking (sadly at my own hands), and had to endure the unsightly “grow back” stage where I had to restrain from touching my brows for nearly a whole year to let them grow out. So now that I  have my brows back to where I want them – I am very dubious to let anyone touch them.

Thursday saw the opening of the first Benefit Brow Bar in Brisbane at the Brisbane City Myer Centre. So after work, I headed into the city to check it out.

If you haven’t already, you should really check out Benefit – everything is so adorable – from their counters to their products through to their staff!

Benefit Brisbane's main counter

the cute display of products

The new Brow Bar at Brisbane Myer Centre is actually separate from the main counter. It’s around the corner opposite the Kit Cosmetics and next to the shoe department. This counter is set up especially for the Brow Bar service.

Benefit Brow Bar

where you sit to get your brows done

I was looked after by Hannah, who happens to be the Brow & Services Trainer for Benefit Cosmetics Australia and she explained to me the Brow Bar experience and that she would be doing a wax, shape and tint for me.

I was a bit stand off-ish, but Hannah is the bombdotcom at what she does. Hannah is a qualified beauty therapist, as are all the Benefit brow bar girls and each and every one of them go through ‘Brow Bar University’ where they are all trained in the Benefit way of waxing, shaping and tinting. So you can rest easy knowing that when you go to Benefit Brow Bar – you will be in good hands.

First they get you to sign an agreement that you haven’t had any microdermabrasion, taking any medication, haven’t applied fake tan etc. before they begin. This is actually quite important – as Hannah explained to me that applying tint to the skin when fake tan has previously been applied will actually cause the hair to go green as the tint reacts with the DHA in the tan – and we don’t want Grinch eyebrows now do we girls?! So make sure you explain to the Benefit technician any beauty treatments you have done recently to your face, as it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Secondly, Hannah illustrated to me the brow shaping process and how they actually go about perfecting the perfect brow shape. I have demonstrated below the three points of the brow, the start, the arch and the end, and how they go about finding those points to shape the perfect brow.

1. The start of your brow is found by placing a line straight up from the edge of your nose in line with the inner corner of your eye.

2. The arch of your brow (highest point) is found by placing a line from the same edge of your nose and lining that up with the outer edge of your iris.

3. The end of the brow is found by placing a line from the same edge of you nose, in line with the outer corner of your eye and extended in a straight line.

Your brows should be around the thickness of a pen, and the Benefit brow technician will advise you if you are to grow out any areas of your brows.

Hannah only had to tidy up the start of my brows, take a little bit off the top to smooth out my naturally high arch points and then tidied up underneath etc. When finished she applied powder to hide redness using Hello Flawless and perfectly defined my brows using the new Brows-a-go-go set.

Do you love shoes? (what a silly question)
Well do I have the competition for you!

In celebration of Westfield Garden City’s shiny new Wittner store, they are offering one lucky shoe addict the chance to win an amazing Wittner shoe wardrobe, with a pair of shoes valued at $150 every month for a year!

You could be giving Carrie Bradshaw a run for her money (well almost).

If you’re anything like me, you would be looking around about now at getting a new winter “shoedrobe”. Wittner Shoes offer the latest fashion and trends when it comes to new season shoes. This season it’s all about looking like a true lady. Think beautiful vintage dresses teamed with luscious points, block heels, tailored shoes and sexy boots.

Another key trend goes back to our country heritage roots. For the cooler months the focus will be on rich, deep colours such as khaki, champagne, coffee, chocolate and touches of shearling.

The new Wittner range shows colours varying from striking black patents to nudes, reds, leopard pony hair, luscious tans and leathers. This also includes beautiful vintage style bags in the most luxurious leathers and trims.

Here are just a few of my picks from the Wittner range of shoes:

CIARA ($169.95) – A Mary-Jane patent leather pump. The perfect ladylike nude heel with a bit of mad men styling.

LANA ($179.95) – Peep toe wedges are back again this season. Lana are a guarantee to add inches to your style credentials.

The Hills are alive with the sound of Beauty

20 Apr

Wondering what those cute Cali crumpets from The Hills are up to now? Well with a cancelled reality TV show and a mediocre clothing line, it looks like Lauren Conrad (known as LC) has jumped ship into Beauty (applause). Lauren Conrad just announced that she’s getting into the beauty business! First, she will launch a hair and makeup online destination named The Beauty Department, a collaboration between Conrad, her makeup artist, Amy Nadine, and her hairstylist, Kristen Ess; and even hinting that she may eventually launch a line of cosmetics and hair products.

The site will be covering all kinds of beauty related stories from makeup and hair how-to’s, nail trends, current obsessions, skin issues, tricks of the trade and tools and most importantly how to achieve those enviable beach curls that Conrad rocks oh so well. Lauren Conrad herself will even dish out beauty advice via video tutorials on the site. The site is pretty darn cute (and so is she!).

But hang on a minute? Another ‘Hills’ hottie has already beat LC to the Beauty blog throne, the down-to-earth Lo (Lauren) Bosworth has had her health, relationship, beauty and lifestyle site – The Lo Down up for quite sometime!

Loey shares her Beauty secrets and tips to everyone (most bizarre being how to make an aspirin face mask?), as well as dishing out relationship, life and health and fitness advice, even answering questions readers send in.

Did you know about The Beauty Department? What about The Lo Down? Will you be reading any of these girl’s sites?

Wonder if Heidi will follow suit? Her career is failing (oh wait what career?!)

Brisbane Beauty Blogger Event – a BIG thank you

18 Apr

Something BIG happened yesterday (well big for me and the Brisbane blogging community anyway), the Bloggers Collective [Brisbane] hosted the first official Brisbane Beauty Bloggers Event (#BBBE). So for all of you wondering what went down yesterday in old Brisbane town, let me give you a little palate pleaser (a little taste of the event). I will be doing a full post-event banquet after I have all the photos.

So who is the Bloggers Collective you ask? Well the Bloggers Collective was a joint initiative between myself (Hip and Haute) and Annica (Haute and Stylish) aka the ‘Haute Girls’. This collective has expanded to include all the Brisbane Beauty bloggers that attended the event and is a nice way to group all of these girls together in a “Collective” – a joint force in the Brisbane Beauty community. Look out for this logo:

Sunday afternoon saw the best of Brisbane’s beauty bloggers come together to meet, mingle and experience first hand some beauty pampering from some of Australia’s best beauty brands. The event was held at Orb Hair & Beauty on the corner of Merthyr Road and James Street, New Farm and was the perfect venue to cater for the 11 beauty bloggers in attendance.

I just want to thank all the Beauty Bloggers who attended, and also all the companies who got involved to make this event a smashing success!

Thank you to:

Orb Hair & Beauty – the lovely Deborah (owner) and Anna (manager) who agreed to hold the event and went above and beyond to help (even putting together little goodie bags), and Lily who came to the event just to give all the girls Essie “minicures” (mini manicures).

Cloud Nine Hair Australia – especially Lauren (Cloud9 stylist), Chantal and Rebecca who came along to the event and did styling sessions and an informative product demonstration using the awesome Cloud9 flat iron and the revolutionary ‘The O’.

Napoleon Perdis – and to Kaitlin, our NP make up artist for the event who came along and did mini makeovers and demos on how-to do a winged eyeliner with staying power and a how-to on the hottest coral lip trend.

Nikki Parkinson from Styling You – for not only being a guest but also a super awesome guest speaker! What an inspirational woman!

Casella Wines – for sponsoring the event and providing all the guests with an endless supply of Yellow Tail wines (white, red, bubblies – you name it!). Yummo!

Face of Australia – for sponsoring the event and providing all the bloggers with FOA goodie bags (featuring the soon-to-be-released Molten Metallics nail lacquers)!!

And all the companies/PR that got on-board and provided product sponsorship for the awesome goodie bags that the girls received – Danne Montague-King (DMK), Ciccone Cosmetics, Australis Cosmetics, piCture pOlish, Schwarzkopf, Sweaty Betty PR, Yellow Tail Wines, and Napoleon Perdis.

And of course to our families for being a great support and helping out where needed! Especially my gorgeous mother who helped with the food (she made the delectable Red Velvet Cupcakes and Vietnamese Spring Rolls with homemade dipping sauce) and my boyfriend who made his most popular and moorish Mexican layer Dip (all the girls now want his secret recipe!)

There will be a more comprehensive follow up post which will delve more into the night’s events and will include links to all the beauty bloggers who attended and also more photos from the event. But to satisfy the cravings, I leave you with a few teaser photos from the night. Enjoy!

11 Apr

A not so exciting weekend… mainly involved getting stuff ready for the event next weekend (EEEEP) and clothes shopping. Went to a friend’s BBQ on saturday and spent Saturday night in reality TV heaven watching Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami season 2, finished that and got bored… so I decided to practice a smokey gold winged eyeliner look (without using tape… booyah!). So relieved I’ve got my outfit sorted for next weekend, found the most perfect black skirt at Dissh. So much so, I put the mustard colour of the same skirt on lay-by! Sunday arvo I randomly decided to sweep the garage, wash my car and clean the inside, then cleaned my bathroom and went for a 5km run with “rock”star (that’s my nickname for Rocky my doggie). LOVE starting the new week all clean and organised!
