Shattered!

25 Jan

Not me personally. I’m talking about my new nail polish that I am totally obsessed with. And in turn – shoving in everyone’s face, saying “LOOK!”

What is it you ask? Only the most anticipated nail polish of the year… O.P.I Black Shatter (AU $19.95). A deep asphalt black with a ‘shattered’ texture. It works by painting a thick coat over nails with a dry (and preferably lighter) nail polish applied, and the lacquer slowly dissolves to produce a cracked or “shattered” effect, letting the bottom nail colour show through. The effect works best on light coloured polishes, especially metallic or glitter polishes.

This is the finished effect of the O.P.I Black Shatter (AU $19.95) over the top of a metallic bronze gold ROKK 96 nail polish that I picked up from Price Attack for $7.95 (so cheap and it’s darn good to apply too).

To achieve the consistency above, I applied fairly thick coats of the Black Shatter. But beware, you have to work fast as it dries REALLY quickly and gets all gluggy (is that even a word?) on the brush. But the joys of this polish is that you don’t have to be perfect or precise in the application. You can achieve smaller ‘shatters’ just by applying a thinner coat of the black shatter.

You can purchase Black Shatter from David Jones stores nationwide, but hurry as it’s only available for a limited time as part of the Katy Perry for O.P.I collection and the Serena Williams for O.P.I  Grand Slam collection. I find that it sells out really quickly, so if you need this in your life (and I’m telling you… you do!) then you can buy the Serena Williams Grand Slam set that includes the Black Shatter from Adore Beauty here for $29.95.

What do you think of the Black Shatter? I’m personally loving it sick as I can achieve a similar look to a leopard print effect without the hassle of applying nail foils. And we all know I go a little crazy for leopard print! :P

Reb’l Fleur

18 Jan

Rihanna is about to launch her first signature perfume next month in the US. The fragrance named “Reb’l Fleur” is described as “a musky mix of vanilla, patchouli and amber”. Here is a look at Rihanna’s new fragrance.

The scent actually sounds like something I would wear. What do you think?

Will you be wanting to try this fragrance by Rihanna?

Get the look: Kim Kardashian

18 Jan

I don’t know about you, but I think Kim Kardashian always look amazeballs (seriously, she must spend 80% of her life in hair and makeup) and the (wo)man behind the mug is Kim’s talented MUA Joyce Bonelli.

Joyce shared her steps behind the lovely luminous look she did for Kim’s 30th Birthday party (well one of the many b’day parties).

Here’s the look:

And here are the steps:

STEP #1: Kim’s Skin

“It’s very important to keep up on your skincare regimen to keep it’s glamour & help to stay away from breakouts. On Kim I apply PerfectSkin, LaMer lifting serum, & PerfectSkin eye cream. To condition lips I use Keihl’s lip balm. *Don’t be lazy, this also goes for washing your face at night! Use makeup remover wipes if you are too tired.”

STEP #2: Primer

“I use Mister Mat Mattifying foundation primer by Givenchy.”

STEP #3: Foundation

“I like to keep Kim’s overall skin to appear matte so I use Sheer Matte by NARS. Blend into the skin with a foundation brush for a flawless touch.”

STEP #4: Undereyes

“I use Lift Concealor by Make Up For Ever.”

STEP #5: Set

“Finally I set Kim’s entire face with translucent powder by Laura Mercier. *Don’t get all cray cray & over do it, only dust your brush with a touch & then gently apply powder.”

STEP #6: Brows

“I tweezed them using Tweezerman tweezers. Then filled them in with Lingering brow pencil by M.A.C.”

STEP #7: KIM’S EYES

“All over the lid I applied the golden shade of NARS Duo eyeshadow in Mediteranee. On the outer corners of the eyes, crease, & along the lower lash line apply Chopper eyeshadow by Urban Decay. On the inner rim of the (tear duct) & the brow bone I apply what I call the magic to the eyes, Lust Duster by benefit. I then lined her top inner rim with Eye Kohl in Smolder by M.A.C. Then to line the lower inside rim I used Costa Riche by M.A.C. To finish off her eye I curled her lashes using Shu Uemura eyelash curler. Then I coated her lashes with LOREAL Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara. *Yay it now comes in waterproof!”

STEP #8: Kim’s Cheeks

“To bronze & add warmth to her skin I used Dior Bronze Matte Sunshine in Amber Matte. On the hollow of her cheeks I applied Suntan Matte Bronzelights by Smashbox. *Using matte bronzers helps to stay away from a possible muddy effect. For blush I brushed onto the apples of the cheeks The Bronze Natural by Dolce & Gabbana.”

STEP #9: Kim’s Luminous Glow

“I applied Lust Dust by benefit right above the hollows ofher cheeks & bridge of her nose.”

STEP #10: Kim’s Lips

“First I lined her lips with Cremola Cremestick liner by M.A.C. Then I applied lipstick in Soft Nude by Revlon. Lastly to add a chic shine I applied 24K gloss by Lip Fusion. *Who needs injections when you can pump up the volume with just gloss!!”

Uhuh. Just gloss hey Joyce? Have you seen the pictures of Kim’s trout pout in this week’s Famous mag?

Blogger Awards

18 Jan

I have been so blessed to be awarded a Stylish blogger and a Beautiful blogger award from two amazing and talented bloggers. I’m so amazed at the support I have already received from the blogging community. It makes it all that more enjoyable. It amuses me that I have made “virtual” friends with a lot of lovely ladies via twitter and blogs that I have never actually met face to face. :)

The idea is that you thank the person who awarded you, pass the award to seven bloggers and write seven facts about yourself.

So firstly, I was awarded the Stylish Blogger Award from Gillian over at I Came To Make A Bang! Follow her on twitter @GillianStepic

THANK YOU GILLY! (Don’t know if I’m allowed to call her that, but don’t care – virtual hug coming your way babe)

Then I was awarded with a Beautiful Blogger Award from the lovely Tegan over at Tegania’s Thoughts who is a fellow brisbane beauty. You can follow her on twitter @TeganMcIntosh

THANKS TEEGS! (There I go again… making up nicknames. I just don’t have the ability to call people by their name. ha!)

So I am going to combine the two and nominate seven wonderful bloggers for both the stylish and beautiful blogger awards.

1. Rachael of Oriental Fifty – Rachie is actually my work mate. She is sitting in the other room as I speak type. I love her and in turn love her blog. It includes loads of inspirational images and cool design stuff. It is quite inspiring and will make you feel all warm and gooey inside.

2. Polly of the delightful Polly-Mae – her blog is gorgeous and she does some wonderful beauty posts that make me want to head straight to the shops. Oh and she is on a mission to find the best of the best beauty products for the big day as she is getting married soon! Weeee. So if you have something she should try out, head over and let her know. She won’t bite – she is a super sweet girl.

3. Kim of The Plastic Diaries – I LOVE Kimmi’s blog. She does excellent beauty reviews and has tried pretty much anything and everything. I love how honest and approachable she is but still professional as all hell. Go check her out. You won’t be disappointed.

4. Jaime of Miss Chew - a great blog with a mix of beauty, celebrity fashion and lifestyle posts. Contains lots of beauty inspiration and even a great post on how to highlight your face with illuminators using the gorgeous Eva Longoria as an example. See it here

5. Kylie of Xarah blog – a brissie beauty that has a simple and elegant blog, and has me lemming for the enamel ring by YSL. Lucky ducky.

6. My good friend Celia of CalvinkilledKlein – she is a creative little crumpet. Her blog contains her artistic and design work. If this is your cup of tea then she’s your girl! She is my favourite fiery ginge (she has the most gorgeous red hair EVER!) and is a doll. Love her.

7. Monique of Mon Is Me – a gorgeous fashion blog by a beyond gorgeous girl. Teasing me with her Dior and Rachel Gilbert purchases. She has great style – very deserving of both the stylish and beautiful blogger awards.

Phew. Now that is done, I now have the tedious task of coming up with seven facts about myself. Well here they go (they’ll be short and sweet and not very mind blowing – soz).

1. It is well known and documented that I love cheese.

2. I am the oldest sibling.

3. I am obsessed with magazines and the Kardashians. I think they each fuel the other obsession (if you know what I mean).

4. I have never been overseas. Oh gawd. I know… but I plan on rectifying that soon.

5. All throughout high school and University I was known as Cookie (my nickname) and was only ever called that. Some people actually didn’t know what my real name was.

6. I always thought that in the Alanis Morrisette song ‘You Ought To Know’, she was singing.. “the cross-eyed bear that you gave to me” Hahaha (now my work colleagues can’t listen to that song without bursting out laughing after my little revelation).

7. I’ve only ever waxed my legs once. I am a huge wuss!!

Emma Stone

Emma Stone on the red carpet for the Golden Globes 2011. Seriously, I’m speechless. She looks so haute! I loved her with red hair and was so sad that she had to go back to blonde (did you know she is a natural blonde?), until I saw this!! The hair is perfect, THAT DRESS! THAT COLOUR! THAT MAKE UP! Perfection.

Endless Summer

10 Jan

As the weather this summer in QLD has been shithouse to say the least, I needed some help in the sun-kissed sector. I had a wedding to attend, and even though it was pouring rain, I didn’t want to look pasty and white. So off I headed to Myer, I had my eye on the latest release from ModelCo, their TAN MOUSSE.

You can purchase ModelCo from Myer, David Jones, Priceline or any other participating retailer, but I headed to Myer as I had a few other things to get. As a promotion before Christmas, Myer had a gift pack containing the TAN MOUSSE (AU $35.00 for 180ml) and the TAN EXTENDER (AU $24.00 for 200ml) all for only AU $39.00. It worked out to be only $4 more to get the tan extender, YEHHAW!

ModelCo TAN MOUSSE is a super lightweight, easy-to-apply, self-tanning and instant bronzing foam for body (I don’t use this on my face), that provides a deep, fast tan that will last for days. And when I say days, I mean DAYS. Try 7 days, that’s how long mine lasted. That rivals the longevity of a salon spray tan!

Now, I’m an avid fan of the Ella Bache Great Tan Mousse, so this poor lass had major high standards to compete with. My favourite product of ModelCo’s was their Spray TAN IN A CAN, and I was hoping that the mousse would give me the same great colour, but with easier application. The pleasant smelling foam, is caramel-tinted leaving a bronze glow as you tan so you can see where it’s applied, leaving you with perfectly streak-free tan everytime. The DHA self-tan develops within hours, the colour is great and definitely streak-free. TAN MOUSSE contains 6% DHA (the highest amount of tanning agent used in ModelCo tanning products) and Caramel Extract for its unrivaled natural colour.

The TAN MOUSSE features a new innovative fragrance technology which is supposed to lock out any chemical odors, so there’s no tell-tale ‘fake-tan smell’ – this was true for when I first applied it, I was left with a somewhat sweet caramel scent. However, after a few hours of it developing, the tell-tale ‘fake-tan smell’ reared it’s ugly head. I guess that just comes with the high percentage of DHA.

I applied the tan the afternoon before the event with my Ella Bache buffing mitt (see below for ModelCo alternative) and slept in it overnight. I awoke the morning of the event, stumbled into my ensuite and looked at myself and thought “Holy Wonka and his Oompa Loompas, I am ORANGE!”

I then jumped into the shower faster than you could say “Wonka Nerdilicious Sour Sticks” and scrubbed feverishly to try and tone down the colour by exfoliating the hell out of my skin. I think it worked, because the colour didn’t seem so orange after that.

Here is the result of the colour, sorry the image isn’t very big and there isn’t too much to show of it. I had to crop other people out of it.

I was happy with the end result and I will keep using the ModelCo TAN MOUSSE.

Tips for application of ModelCo TAN MOUSSE

STEP 1. Shake bottle well before each use. For optimum results, apply to clean, exfoliated skin within 10 minutes of showering. For even, streak-free results, apply using ModelCo BLEND BUFFING MITT (AU $11.95).

STEP 2. Gently massage the foam into the skin, working on one area of the body at a time. Use sparingly on knees, elbows & ankles. Wash hands immediately after use.

STEP 3. Wait 10 minutes before dressing and at least 4 hours before washing.

TAN EXTENDER is the latest exciting addition to the ModelCo TAN range – use it to intensify or extend the life of your tan, whilst nourishing and toning your skin. Or, simply use TAN EXTENDER on it’s own for a natural-looking sun kissed glow all year round.

TAN EXTENDER contains nourishing active ingredients such as Green Tea, Caffeine, Ivy Extract, Bladderwrack and Horse Chestnut Extract, which all work to improve the skins tone and texture.

GREEN TEA (CAMELLIA SINENSIS) EXTRACT
• A potent anti-oxidant, acting as an anti-inflammatory & preventing the visible signs of aging.

CAFFEINE
• Stimulates blood flow in the skin,
• Rich in tannins, acting as an astringent, constricting blood vessels and the skin
• Skin feels more toned as puffiness is reduced.

IVY (HEDERA HELIX) EXTRACT
• Works as an astringent and a decongestant, firming body tissue by eliminating excess water.

BLADDER WRACK (FUCUS VESICULOSUS) EXTRACT
• Contains skin-softening properties as it improves the skin’s elasticity through its water binding properties.

HORSE CHESTNUT (AESCULUS HIPPOCASTANUM) EXTRACT
• Has astringency and anti-inflammatory benefits.
• Skin appears more toned and smooth as fluid retention is reduced by increasing the permeability of the capillaries and allowing the reabsorbtion of excess fluid back into the circulatory system.

I haven’t used the TAN EXTENDER long enough to report on the skin benefits above, but the product lives up to its tan amplifying effects. I believe this helped extend the life of my tan to a week and made sure I didn’t get the patchiness when the tan eventually started to wear off. The lotion itself is sweet smelling and rubs into the skin considerably well. I would use this self-tan extender only when I have a tan on, as the product contains Mineral Oil which I am not keen on, however I can’t deny it does a wonderful job at keeping my skin hydrated and provide a longer lasting, natural-looking tan.

People’s Choice Awards 2011

6 Jan

The 2011 People’s Choice Awards is on at the Nokia Theatre in LA today, and I love looking at the red carpet arrivals and picking my faves. So here they are:

Selena Gomez – she gets top spot because she looks gorgeous in BOTH her outfit choices. Oh and that hair! That is pure dessert hair and I am going to use it as inspiration for when I get my colour done next.

Taylor Swift – Tay looks gorgeous in that colour and the red lippy really sets it off. Bravo Miss Swift!!

Malin Akerman – Malin looks smoking. Loving the darker roots and her boho “lob” (long bob) which is on trend at the moment. Not to mention that dress… REOW! The red accessories are a winner.

The Kardashian sisters – well, simply because they are the Kardashians and they are always impeccable… ’nuff said!

Ashley Tisdale – loving that print dress! And Ash’s bronzed bare makeup.

Which of these are your favourite red carpet look?

Excited that the Kardashians won yet another People’s Choice Award? Thought you were! ;)
