let it breathe

8 Jul

Do you go days without makeup to let your skin breathe? You should if you don’t… I rate it highly, alongside haloumi cheese, cupcakes and puppy snuggles. I usually choose one day of the weekend when I know I’m just going to be slothing around the house cleaning, watching The Vampire Diaries and doing the grocery shopping, and today was one of those days!

Here I am without makeup on today…

I feel like my skin benefits greatly from letting it “breathe” for the day. To give it the best chance at refreshing, I cleansed my face this morning with a natural exfoliant. It’s by Wild Nature which can be found here and it is great to use first thing in the mornings to slough away the dead skin cells that have built up and also stimulate the blood flow to the skin to give your face a healthy glow.

The Wild Nature Face & Body Exfoliant (AU$33.00) containing pure Aloe Vera and crushed Almond Shell is a gentle face & body polish that removes dead skin cells. Giving you that deep cleanse needed to ensure that new cells can develop and surface. A twice weekly application that leaves your skin fresh, stimulated, smooth and hydrated.

Aloe Vera is great for stimulating the natural healing mechanisms of the body. Some of the most prominent active ingredients contained in Aloe Vera are:

  • Vitamins A, C, E, B, B12, Choline, Folic Acid
  • 7 of the 8 essential amino acids
  • 9 essential minerals such as Calcium, Copper, Chromium, Magnesium, Iron, Potassium, Zinc, Sodium, and Manganese.
  • Enzymes

Wow that’s a lot right? Using this just twice a week is all that is needed for brighter and more radiant skin.

And back to letting it breathe… it needs a break from all the makeup. So please, when you are at home and you’re reaching for the makeup just think “do I really need to put my face on today?”. If you can do without… DO! Your skin will thank you for it.

Oh but please remember to still wear sunscreen. This is a MUST!

Tell me hautees, will you be giving your skin a day off soon?
Please do, then Tweet or Facebook me if you do. I would love to know who’s giving their skin a little breather.

Rahua / Revolutionary Rainforest Hair Care

10 Aug

Bathing Beauty Organic Apothecary have launched yet another amazing exclusive organic brand – RAHUA. Born in the Amazon and perfected in NYC by Fabian Lliguin, this range is another level of hair care. The Rahua Amazon Beauty hair care range utilises the super fine oil of the Rahua nut, found only in the depths of the Amazon, to rejuvenate lifeless, dull and damaged hair. It’s unique molecular structure penetrates the hair shaft repairing the hair from the inside out, leaving your hair healthier and smoother than ever.

What’s great about this hair care brand is that even today, Amazon Beauty work in close partnership with the Quechua-Shuar tribeswomen. The Rahua oil is sourced and processed by these women in accordance with the traditional methods that have been passed down for generations. Rahua are advocate for fair trade and ethical sourcing of ingredients and gives back a percentage of sales to their sister organization Ecoagents.

I was lucky enough to be given the Rahua Finishing Treatment (AU$65.00 for 2oz) to trial. This finishing treatment prevents hair from splitting during styling, blow-drying, hot ironing and combing. Super-fine Rahua oil molecules deeply penetrate the hair’s cortex to rebuild even the most damaged tresses – strengthens strands and leaving hair smooth, shiny and frizz-free. Silicone-free, it strengthens and allows hair to grow longer while providing a glossy, weightless finish.

Everything about this product, from the treatment down to the packaging screams luxury – even the thought of using the oil of the Rahua Nut makes me feel like I am coating my hair in love… luxurious love, the kind that is often reseved for special occasions. Well, it doesn’t have to be so. You only need use the smallest amount of the cream to coat the ends of your hair (too much product and you run the risk of having any oily mess), so you can afford to use this just as much as you would any other finishing treatment. This jar will seriously last a looonnggggg time!

June Favourites 2011

27 Jul

It doesn’t look like I will get around to doing a June Favourites video, just like it doesn’t look like I’ll be 5kg lighter this summer. Oh well. You win some you lose some. Some major tooth pain from a root canal procedure, coupled with a sense of blah has really put my mojo off this month. Being in a drugged up stupor wasn’t very conducive to blog writing/youtube videos either (that may work for some people, but not me). Hopefully the worst of it is behind me now, I don’t want to be mojo-less for much longer.

So I know it’s almost to the end of July, but better late than never right??! Here is the rundown of my favourite products from the month of June:

White D-Tox [Bright Cell] Cleanser – $49.00 (AUD) for 125ml

This instant brightening micro-scrub cleanser is formulated with Biotherm’s ‘Bright Cell’ complex and Pure Extract of Thermal Plankton to help minimise the appearance of pigmentation and dark spots on the skin’s surface. And it does just that! Don’t you love products that do what they actually say they should. Let me answer that for you, YES! Hence why it is one of my favourites for the month (and every month mind you).

Napoleon Perdis Blush Patrol – $60.00 (AUD)

The swirl of rich pigments in this baked blush creates a natural flush that lasts all day. The shimmering shades imbue skin with a ravishing pop of color – who doesn’t want that? Blush Patrol is enriched with Vitamins A and C. I love the fine gold flecks in this blush, that would suit any skin tone. The colour pay off is incredible, and gives your face that glowy gleam that we crave so much in Winter. I have been reaching for this blush a lot the past month to instil some colour and glow to my dull complexion.

NARS Orgasm Illuminator – $58.00 (AUD) for 30ml

Another shimmer inducer! This luminous cream magically transforms lackluster skin into a flawless, glowing complexion. I love the faint gold fleck combined with the peachiness of this, as I always like to wear coral blushes. The Orgasm Illuminator gives me glowing cheeks and a lit-from-within look that perks up my lack-lustre complexion.

Biotherm Skin.Ergetic Night Cream – $65.00 (AUD) for 50ml

Biotherm creates SKIN.ERGETIC NIGHT, its first overnight visible high-recovery moisturiser with five tea & seed fractions. A formula with a purifying complex that promotes the elimination of impurities generated by free radicals on the skin’s surface and diminishes visible signs of fatigue. As a non-user of night creams, this one was PERFECT for me. I was always scared that a night cream was going to be too oily and heavy for my skin, but this night cream from Biotherm is such a winner for younger skin. It hasn’t broken me out and I don’t wake up with a oil slick. Phew!

OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Minis Collection – $24.95 (AUD) for 4 x 3.75ml

A limited edition collection of four mini swashbuckling shades from the Pirates of the Caribbean Collection. The OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Minis Collection contains: Skull + Glossbones: a khaki gray shade; Planks A Lot: a lavender shade; Sparrow Me The Drama: a strawberry pink shade; Stranger Tides: a sage green shade. I love all the colours and they all apply like a dream!

Rahua Finishing Treatment – $65.00 (AUD) for 2oz

A finishing treatment that rivals the famed Morrocanoil (in my opinion). Rich with organic and 100% natural ingredients… oh and it smells nommy!

Have you tried any of these?

Tell me, do you have any favourites that I MUST try?

Top five favourites

13 Dec

As the year is coming to a close, I want to share with you my top five favourite products from the year that was 2010. This was suggested by Anita at lovevulcanella.com so pop over and check out her site as she will be doing a ‘Beauty Blogger’s Top 5’ post featuring the favourite products from some of us beauty bloggers. It was so hard to choose just five, so I chose mine based on what I repeatedly purchase (must make it good right?!) and what I couldn’t possibly live without.

Let’s go backwards (as to build up more suspense). I don’t want to hit you with my most loved straight up now do I?

Number 5 is…

Napoleon Perdis Camera Finish in Look 4 ($59)  – a silk finish powder foundation compact, 3-in-1 that conceals, covers and sets. Perfect for when you know you will be in front of the camera and you don’t want “the eagle” – pale face/tan body (rookie mistake). Also great if you are in a rush and just want to add a bit of colour to your face and even out skin tone.

Number 4 is…

Bloom Organics Certified Organic Rosehip Oil ($25, 20ml) – rich in Vitamins A and essential fatty acids, this Certified Organic Oil is a powerful antioxidant. It naturally hydrates the skin, decreases the appearance of fine lines and improves skin elasticity. I use Rosehip Oil religiously as I find it great for my oily/combination skin. It doesn’t make my skin oily (common misconception about oils) and is SO GREAT for the dry parts on my face (cheeks and around the nose).

Number 3 is…

M.A.C Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle ($46) – a luxurious velvet-soft powder with high-frost metallic finish. Smoothes on: adds buffed-up highlights to cheeks and brows, or an overall ultra-deluxe polish to the face. I have received so many compliments wearing this as a highlighter. It’s gorgeous. Love this so hard! 🙂

Number 2 is…

Ella Bache Great Moussetan ($44, 150ml) – a creamy moisturising mousse that is quick and easy to apply, as well as fast absorbing, providing a streak-free golden tan that develops over 1-4 hours. Instant bronze tint allows for easy flawless application. pH balancing and stablished to deliver a natural looking tan adjusted to suit your skin – won’t turn your skin orange! Believe it girls. You won’t ever turn back from this baby. Most amazing natural looking colour ever! Apply with the Ella Bache Great Tanningmitt ($15) to achieve a flawless, streak-free application of this tan (and NO.ORANGE.HANDS!! Girls it doesn’t get any better than that, get to Ella Bache stat!).

OK you ready? Drum roll please!!!

Number 1, Numero uno, first place, winner product for hip&haute for 2010 goes to…

Benefit Hoola bronzing powder ($51) – This soft bronze matte powder gives your complexion a healthy, natural looking tan. Dust it lightly across cheeks, chin and forehead to bring the warm tan of the island to your skin and spirits. Use hoola for a year round healthy tan. This bronzer is AMAZEBALLS!! Best bronzed colour ever, giving you exactly what it says – a “natural” tan complexion. Boy oh boy, I rarely go a day without popping this hero product on. So great for contouring used with a slanted powder brush. Remember when contouring to apply UNDER the cheekbones and place a highlighter/illuminator on top of your cheekbones. Do this and you’ll be sure to have gorgeous cheeks like fellow bronzer lover, Lauren Conrad here.

I’m not the only one who thinks this is a winner of a product. Check out the awards this baby has received:

  • 2010 Life & Style Awards – Best Bronzer
  • 2010 TotalBeauty.com Total Beauty Awards – Best Bronzer (Readers’ Choice)
  • 2008 Best of Sephora: “Best Bronzer”

What are some of your hero products? Anyone keen to try out the Hoola Bronzer? Or has anyone tried it and loved it sick? Let me know.
