Sally Hansen Salon Effects for Easter

17 Apr

Before Easter, I was sent some of the NEW Sally Hansen SALON EFFECTS Easter edition nail strips to try out. I have tried “nail strips” before with not much to say. They were okay, but they didn’t last past day 2 without chipping.

However I have not had the chance to try the Sally Hansen SALON EFFECTS until now… Sally Hansen’s revolutionary nail design product SALON EFFECTS introduces new designs to celebrate Easter. These 5 Easter themed looks for your nails, are easy to achieve at home and offer incredible, ten-day staying power.

I received the cute and chirpy Not A Peep, along with Pink a Dot and All A Flutter, but Not A Peep was chosen for the honour of my “Easter Mani” on the Easter long weekend just past. And boy was it KAH-UTEEEE!!! Check ’em…

I was due for the removal of my CND Shellac so after the tedious task of removing my shellac, I got to work on applying the nail polish strips… which surprisingly were very easy to do once you get a hang of it. They were the easiest strips I’ve ever tried to apply so far and fit my nail shape perfectly as you can see in the above photo.

The prep of your nails is the most important.

  • Start with clean dry nails
  • Push back cuticles with wooden stick (supplied)
  • Shape free edge of nail with hot pink side of file (supplied)
  • Gently smooth nail bed with white side of file (supplied)
  • Give nails a good once over with nail polish remover (preferably containing acetone) to remove any excess dirt and oil. This is extreeeemmmely important as it helps the nail strips last longer as it ensures there is no trace of oils or residue on the nail bed that may ultimately cause the nail strips to lift off the nail.

Follow the instructions on the leaflet contained in the pack and hey presto! Nail art in minutes that would take ages in a salon.

Each Salon Effects™ Easter kit includes 16 nail polish strips, a cuticle stick, mini file/buffer and instructions for easy, at-home application – everything you need for fun themed nails. When you’re ready to change your nail strips, simply swipe nails with your favourite Sally Hansen polish remover for an instantly clean slate.

Because Salon Effects is made from real nail polish, be sure to use all strips immediately upon opening otherwise they will dry out.

My mani lasted 7 days and still looked as perfect as day 1. If I hadn’t taken them off to do my shellac again, I would confidently say that they would have lasted well over 10 days! So very impressed!

Recommended Retail Price: $14.95

Sally Hansen Easter Salon Effects are available 1st March 2012 from Priceline, Priceline Pharmacy, Target, David Jones and selected pharmacies nationally for a limited time only. For stockists please call 1800 812 663.

I was kindly sent these products for consideration, as per my disclosure statement, this did not influence my opinion in any way and all reviews are of my own honest opinion.

CHANEL Graphite Le Vernis

5 Sep

So call me evil, but when shopping in David Jones with my Mum a few weeks ago, I may have sneakily suggested we check out the new collection from Chanel. You see if there is anyone more swayed by pretty cosmetics than me, it would be my Mother. We are similar in the sense that we are both attracted to expensive beautiful cosmetics like Snoop Dogg is attracted to a poolside party full of big bosomed, bikini-clad chicks.

So there we were, cooing over the new nail varnishes, when one of the lucky 3 made a lasting impression on us. My mum tried it on, and we had only turned around and walked a few steps before we were both back begging the Chanel lady to sell it to us. The excuse? My mum had a few special events coming up and this colour was PERFECT! Oh and it turned out to be the last one! “See”, I said “It was meant to be”. And that’s how my Mum became the proud owner of Chanel Graphite Le Vernis (AU$39) from the Illusions d’Ombres de Chanel Fall 2011 Collection.

I am one of those people who don’t see the point in spending a near 40 bucks on a nail polish, but I may have spoke too soon, as Graphite is a unique breed of varnish. And I am a sucker for Chanel packaging so yeh.

I would describe Chanel’s Graphite as a charcoal silver foil with a chameleon effect. Depending on which way the light hits it, it can throw a silvery sparkle or a gorgeous green-gold sparkle. It truly is gorgeous. The finish on the varnish is great too – even though it has fine glitter particles through it, it applies smoothly and leaves a smooth flat finish. Two coats and a top coat were enough to create the look above. These were taken in natural sunlight – where they do their best work!! 🙂

Chanel Graphite is listed as Limited Edition, so if you are lucky enough to still find a bottle of this – SNAPPLE IT UP!! I don’t think there are any exact dupes out there for Graphite, and it is quite unique. I’m wishing I hunted down a bottle for myself. I’m going to be unwilling in giving this one back to mother dearest.

It was purchased at David Jones for AU$39.

What do you think? Would you fork out $39 for a Chanel nail polish?

Nicole by OPI Kardashian Kolors

14 Jul

Finally! Rumours had been flying around, secret tweets were tweeted, and photos emerged that all pointed to the fact that the Kardashians were releasing a line of nail polishes in conjunction with OPI. And it’s true, Nicole by OPI and the Kardashian/Jenner family announce the launch of Kardashian Kolors, 14 new nail lacquer shades inspired by Kris Jenner and her five daughters—Kourtney, Kim, Khloe Kardashian and Kylie and Kendall Jenner.

I am so obsessed with this family and will need to get my polished paws on these babies whatever way I can, BIBLE! (In Kardashian speak that means I swear to god). I have a feeling that they will only be available in the US and Canada (as we don’t usually get the Nicole by OPI collections here in Australia), so it might prove a little difficult for me… but I will try as hard as I can! How good would it be if it was released here in Oz?!

“We are so excited to work with everyone’s favorite TV family—the Kardashians—to share a diverse collection of fashion-forward shades,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, Nicole by OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “Kardashian lacquers range from high-shine and sparkly hues to neutral taupe and pinkish coral.”

Each of the 14 shades, which have been co-designed by 27-year-old Khloe and 32-year-old Kourtney, have been named in honour of their other family members. And here are Khloe and Kourtney at the launch in New York on Monday, flaunting some of the kolors from the kollection – ‘ey ‘ey you see what I did there? 🙂

In true OPI style, all the names of the polishes are cute and quirky, and the girls have done a really good job at choosing the names. The 14 shades are called (in order of the top main image):

It’s All About the Glam – Shimmering-white glitz

Kim-pletely in Love – The pink of her dreams!

All Kendall-ed Up – Powder your nose and get some pink on those toes!

Wear Something Spar-Kylie – Glitter-ly the prettiest pink ever!

Sealed with a Kris – This klassy red is top-of-the-line!

Rainbow in the S-Kylie – Girls just wanna have…glitter in every color!

Disco Dolls -Glittery gold glam gone wild!

Kendall on the Katwalk – A head-turning blue-green with a “sparkling” personality!

Listen to your Momager! – If you don’t, you’ll never see this fabulous blue again!

Follow Me on Glitter – A glittery deep gray that always has something to say!

My Empire…My Rules – This take-charge taupe is always on-trend.

Khloé Had a Little Lam-Lam – A deep dark emerald worth falling for.

Hard Kourt Fashionista – This delicious deep brown is the chicest hue in town!

Kourt is Red-y for a Pedi! – This captivating coral looks “fab” on everyone!

Nicole by Opi Kardashian Kolors will be available Holiday 2011 for $7.99 US each ($11.00 CAD)

Online at nicolebyopi.com

So what do you think of the colours?

Will you be trying to get your polished little paws on this collection? Or should I say kollection?

UPDATE: I came across the Saralli Designs website and found that she stocks the Nicole by OPI polishes! Yeyyyyy

NOTD: Australis Sky High

3 Jun

Today’s nail of the day, was influenced by the fact that I wanted to wear my coral Lovisa ring… I wanted a pastel colour that would complement the hue of the ring. I decided upon Australis Paint The Town polish in Sky High, which was a Target exclusive from awhile ago. I just LOVE the baby blue and coral together (secretly wishing I could have worn this combo with a matching summery outfit, but alas, I’ve had to rug up).

I like the Paint The Town collection from Australis, because they are opaque, don’t streak, and the monster brush helps reduce the amount of strokes (and therefore lessens the possibility of stuff ups for me). The colour is described as a baby blue creme. This was 2 coats (you could totally get away with one).

NOTW: piCture pOlish Sunset

14 May

My ‘Nail of The Week’ was a bright neon coral nail polish by Australian brand piCture pOlish in the shade Sunset! This is an “in-your-face” bright shade from the company’s ‘Neon’ range.

The colour is a bright orange with serious kick; it comes up much brighter in real life than the following photos depict (if you can believe that?!!!). It’s definitely a summery statement colour…

This was using 2 coats of Sunset and I used O.P.I Start to Finish Base & Top Coat. These photos were taken on the 2nd day (without flash) and as you can see there’s only a little bit of chipping around the tip of some nails. The formula was a breeze to apply, a great consistency and didn’t streak at all.

The piCture pOlish range of nail polishes are available online from the piCture pOlish website for AU$9.95 each and they ship internationally.

This product was kindly gifted to us in the #BBBE (Brisbane Beauty Bloggers Event) goodie bags, but as per my disclosure statement, this did not influence my opinion in any way and all reviews are of my own honest opinion.

25 Jan

Not me personally. I’m talking about my new nail polish that I am totally obsessed with. And in turn – shoving in everyone’s face, saying “LOOK!”

What is it you ask? Only the most anticipated nail polish of the year… O.P.I Black Shatter (AU $19.95). A deep asphalt black with a ‘shattered’ texture. It works by painting a thick coat over nails with a dry (and preferably lighter) nail polish applied, and the lacquer slowly dissolves to produce a cracked or “shattered” effect, letting the bottom nail colour show through. The effect works best on light coloured polishes, especially metallic or glitter polishes.

This is the finished effect of the O.P.I Black Shatter (AU $19.95) over the top of a metallic bronze gold ROKK 96 nail polish that I picked up from Price Attack for $7.95 (so cheap and it’s darn good to apply too).

To achieve the consistency above, I applied fairly thick coats of the Black Shatter. But beware, you have to work fast as it dries REALLY quickly and gets all gluggy (is that even a word?) on the brush. But the joys of this polish is that you don’t have to be perfect or precise in the application. You can achieve smaller ‘shatters’ just by applying a thinner coat of the black shatter.

You can purchase Black Shatter from David Jones stores nationwide, but hurry as it’s only available for a limited time as part of the Katy Perry for O.P.I collection and the Serena Williams for O.P.I  Grand Slam collection. I find that it sells out really quickly, so if you need this in your life (and I’m telling you… you do!) then you can buy the Serena Williams Grand Slam set that includes the Black Shatter from Adore Beauty here for $29.95.

What do you think of the Black Shatter? I’m personally loving it sick as I can achieve a similar look to a leopard print effect without the hassle of applying nail foils. And we all know I go a little crazy for leopard print! 😛

Haute As!

26 Nov

Looking on Essie.com and I saw this shade from the 2010 Summer Collection called Haute As Hello. Umm Hello!? I NEED this! Not only is it a coral shade, it has got haute in the name. Too good to be true?

Anyone know when this Essie Summer Collection will be coming to oz?

I got this shade from Myer on the weekend. Will post review soon.

Essie California Coral

24 Nov

In keeping with my current coral craze (phew, try and say that 20 times really fast), I took great advantage of the Myer One sale last week and bought myself a new Essie nail polish. The lucky pick? Why California Coral ($18.95) of course! This shade really caught my eye. I went in initially wanting to get either fiji or tart deco from the range but ended up taking this bad boy up to the counter. Can you say coral obsessed?! 😀

I can’t say enough good things about the Essie range, not only the durability, but the colours are WAY CUTE! You could totally get away with only doing one coat of this colour if you were lazy or in a hurry. I did two coats and topped it off with OPI Rapidry Top Coat. The pictures below are 3 days in, so it’s safe to say that the Essie polishes are good quality and really last.

California Coral is an intense red coral with a smooth finish and remarkable durability that you would come to expect from such a brand as Essie. I will definitely be going back to get some more Essie shades. You can’t fault them. And I will be wearing this shade a lot throughout summer, teamed with a coral lip.

You can find Essie at Myer for $18.95 each. These would make a great stocking filler. I don’t know what girl wouldn’t want one of these fantastic nail polishes.

Tell me, do you like Essie? What colours are your favourite?

Latest haul

16 Nov

So I just thought I’d share my latest haul with you guys from the last week or so. Gotta a few different goodies and I will do a few reviews on some of the products at a later date.

I needed a new cleanser so I thought I would try the L’Occitane Foaming Rice Cleanser. What drew me to this product was the fact that it’s a rich foaming cleanser (and soap-free) which removes make-up, impurities & excess sebum. The red rice powder helps absorbs surface oil & mattes out shine, whilst the zinc helps to rebalance & control oil production. Just what my oily/combo skin needs (and the fact that it’s a pump pack and you only need a small amount was just the icing on the cake really).

The Shiseido Sun Protection Stick Foundation SPF36+ in Ochre which I have previously raved about in my post ‘Beach Bag Beauty’. This product is such a winner, so much so that I have started to wear it everyday! It lasts all day, provides broad UV sun protection and leaves me with a healthy “glowing” tan complexion.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Melonade 180 – this lipstick provides intense colour and moisture. And is so on trend for summer. Will post on this soon!

Lush Cosmetics Gingerbread House Bubble Bar – when I went to Pacific Fair on the weekend, I dragged the whole of my family (some willing, some not) into this store and put my nose to work. My pick was this bubble bar because it just smells SO.DARN.GOOD! Seriously I just want to crush it up and stick it in my nostrils. And how cute is it!? I spent the whole next day smelling it repeatedly. There needs to be a candle/melt made of this scent because it’s to die for. I think it was only $6.50 or $8.50? Can’t remember. But you only have to use a 1/3 for each bath. Review to come!

Australis ‘Paint The Town’ Nail polish exclusively for Target – I got the light blue colour as that was the only one left at Target when I went. But I am hoping to go and pick up some more of the colours in the range. I’ll keep you posted.

And lastly, Benefit Hoola Bronzer because I am starting to see the bottom of my first one 😦 and this is the BEST bronzer I have ever come across. Well for me anyway. It’s perfect for conturing and it’s not a oompa loompa colour, it looks natural.

A tribute to Katy’s nails

If you are one of the 4 million that follow the delightfully wacky Katy Perry (@katyperry), then you would know that Katy has a fascination with nail art, and boy does she do it well! Today’s delightful twitpic revealed her latest – the “sprinkles” nail art. Yummmmm. All of a sudden I feel like fairy bread, you? Good reason to chew your nails?

This hundreds and thousands nail art has to be one of my favourites! As a tribute to the lovely katy’s nails, I have featured some more of my favourite nail art photos from Katy Perry herself! Enjoy.
