New goodies that will sparkle your pants off

18 Mar

Friday. 12:00pm. For some reason, I had my heart set on getting a sparkly eyeshadow. I think it’s because I saw the new L’Oreal Paris Infalliable eye shadows in Shop Til You Drop. Off I headed to Priceline, and as soon as I walked into Priceline I spied the new Gucci Westman for Revlon collection… MY OH MY!¬†The Revlon Expressionists Collection for Fall 2011 is a collaboration with Revlon Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman. The 17 piece-collection introduces the new Revlon Diamond Lust Eyeshadows. For some reason Australia is only getting this now?? It was a Fall 2011 collection. WEIRD. Here’s some of the products from the collection.

I challenge anyone to walk past that display and not be captivated by the sparkly goodness. So then I went to work swatching. Here’s what I got…

The Revlon Diamond Lust eye shadow in 110 Starry Pink. If you know me, you know I have a current obsession with pink glitter, and this does not disappoint! It has glitter pay off ahoy and the colour is gorrrrgeous. Oh and it was down to $15.96 from AU$19.95. WIN.

The Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in 025 Sky Line Pink (AU$21.95), which will most certainly become my new favourite nude lipstick… it’s a really light pink with a pearlescent shimmer in it. So pretty, and so in keeping with the pink sparkle obsession. I think I may layer this over a nude lippy thou… it packs a pearly shimmer.

The new Face of Australia Barbados nail enamel collection has hit shelves… and Priceline had 20% off Face of Australia. So I picked up ‘Bright Lights, Pink City’ and ‘Orange You Glad You Came?’ for the neat price of AU$3.96 each. These are such summery pastel colours and they have a pearl shimmer through them which gives them a point of difference.

I also just grabbed a Batiste Brunette Dry Shampoo (AU$7.99)… an absolute must have. Oh and heads up, they must have changed the design on the can to this ugly retro pattern sometime ago. I was confuzzled. It says NEW… but I think they’ve just redone the packaging. Not a fan Batiste… hire a new graphic designer.

Oh and just quickly… I want to show you my new wool cardigan (how nanna of me). It’s super cute and I foresee it becoming a winter staple. It will just layer so well with other things (i.e. clothes LOL). It’s from Sportsgirl.

It looks better on. ūüėõ

I also have some new Benefit goodies that have just arrived but I will save them for another post or else this will go on forever. ūüôā
Alright I’m off to go dance to this song… Snoop Dogg’s Drop It Like It’s Hot. The boy asks me “Why do you listen to this music?” AHHHHUMMMM is he kidding? With lyrics like “so¬†don’t change the dizzle, turn it up a little,¬†I¬†got a living room¬†full of¬†fine¬†dime brizzles. Waiting on the Pizzle, the Dizzle and the Shizzle.¬†G’s to the bizzack, now ladies here we gizmo” ¬†who wouldn’t, fo shizzle?

My first ILoveThisBox (November 2011)

18 Dec

I was nicely offered to trial the first ever ILoveThisBox beauty sample box. I was a bit sceptical about the beauty sample boxes, but I’m glad to say that I was nicely surprised by this one. ūüôā

ILoveThisBox brings a fabulous monthly selection of up to 5 luxurious cosmetic samples straight to your door. By working with the best brands and focusing on the latest trends they ensure each month’s box is a real treat.

Delivery is included in your monthly or annual membership fee and you can cancel a monthly membership at any time (which I know is one of the first questions asked by most). The monthly subscription fee is AUD 14.95.

My first impression was, WOW… there are a LOT of full size products included, and some of them are new and or not seen before – which is exactly what you want to get from these sample box services.

The package arrived in good condition and the box/packaging was very cute… and it came with product detail card to tell you exactly what you got.

Want to see what I got in the November box?…

November’s box included:

– NEW Keratinology by Sunsilk Salon Perfection Shampoo and Conditioner full size products – a premium collection formulated with Keratin Micro Technology

РCertified Organic by NATURE, NVEY ECO’s Taupe [#172] Eyeshadow full size product Рa lovely taupe eyeshadow colour that is talc free

РPOD Liquid Tan Gradual Tanning Face Serum full size product Рa light weight serum using a eco-cert vegetable tanning active

РCaudalie Paris skin care samples: Premières vendanges moisturizing cream, Anti-wrinkle serum,  Anti-wrinkle ultra-nourishing cream.

РEssie mini nail polish in French Affair from the Spring 2011 Collection

When I first opened the box, there was this AMAZING smell – turned out to be the New Sunsilk Keratinology hair products. These are great and have been my favourite products from the box so far. The nail polish is a gorgeous colour and I’m keen to try out the facial tanning serum.

There was also a discount offer for Magnolia Silver Jewellery included.

All in all, I was very pleased with the first box from ILoveThisBox, and I think that the brands they have partnered up with are quite good and something that I would love to receive. And the goodies were ginormous!
These boxes could also be a great gift for somebody, I mean who doesn’t love getting presents in the mail?

You can check out more about ILoveThisBox over at their website. They also have a blog! Make sure you sign up if you are interested… I think that the cut off date for the December box has passed, but you should be able to get in for the January one!

This was provided for review as per my disclosure statement.

A quick FOTD + 100th post

4 Jul

This is just a quick FOTD featuring my natural “going out soon… shit son I only have 20mins to get myself looking decent” look. And yes, apologies, I know the photo is crappola! My camera is out of action unfortunately… hurry up birf-day so I can get my snazzy new camera!!!

You all know the one… the natural ‘why yessum I do just look this good naturally’¬†look, using more than the average amount of makeup. Now let’s get into it…

  • Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot Skin Primer
  • Mixture of Face of Australia Liquid Mineral Makeup in Beige with equal parts of Maybelline NY Mineral Power Liquid Foundation in Creamy Natural (applied with a stippling brush for a flawless finish)
  • Bourjois Healthy Mix concealer under the eyes and to cover any flaws
  • Set base with Maybelline NY FIT ME Pressed Powder in 225 Medium Buff
  • Illamasqua Powder Blush in Hussy
  • Face of Australia Pressed Powder in Bronze as contour
  • Benefit instant brow pencil in medium to dark to fill in the brows

  • Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in R.S.V.P all over lid from the Primpcess palette
  • Benefit Powder Eyeshadow contour from the Primpcess palette (middle highlight shade) on browbone
  • Benefit Powder Eyeshadow brown liner from Primpcess palette (dark brown shade) in the crease blended out and followed underneath the eyes in the lash line
  • Lashes curled and then coated twice with Benefit Badgal lash mascara

  • One coat of Face Of Australia Mineral Lip Shine in Oyster Shell
  • Followed by MAC Lipstick (frost) in Angel

Tadaaaa… semi-useless FOTD picture:

And a poor attempt to capture my whole outfit. ūüė¶¬†This look was for my date with Yolanda from Shopping Intervention. We went to Freestyle Tout for dinner and dessert… na na na naahhh nahhhhh look what we had:

Bread and Butter Pudding FTW! droollll

Let me know, was this of use to you? Or was it as useless as tits on a boar?

cheap and cheerful haulage feat. NYX

26 Apr

It’s close to the end of a loooooong weekend (6 day weekend FTW) so please excuse my ability to think clearly and write something witty on my blog today, my brain is still thinking it’s Saturday… or Sunday? Gosh I don’t even know… what day is it??

So I’ve got some pretty pictures for you from a haul I did featuring all NYX cosmetics – if you are looking to do a little bit of make up shopping but don’t want to spend too much moolah, then look no further than NYX! You can afford to scoop up some beauties without sacrificing on quality (or food for the week).

Front (L-R) NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in “Sweet Heart” and NYX Powder Blush in “Peach”

Back (L-R) NYX 5 Colour Shadow The Carribbean Collection in “I Dream of Barbados” and NYX For Your Eyes Only 10 Colour Shadow in “Smokey Eyes”

NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in 104 Sweet Heart (AU$8.99) in a nude pink gloss with shimmer. It’s not an icky sticky and it goes well over lipsticks.

NYX Powder Blush in 06 Peach (AU$14.99) is a light pink blush that goes on well. You can build up to your desirable colour and lasts all day.

These were both purchased from Groove Accessories store at Westfield Chermside.

NYX 5 Colour Shadow The Carribbean Collection in “I Dream of Barbados” (AU$16.99) was also purchased from Groove Accessories store at Westfield Chermside. I liked the look of the light colour far left and the purple colour far right.

NYX For Your Eyes Only 10 Colour Shadow in “Smokey Eyes”. I paid about AU$10.99 for this on eBay. I purchased this after seeing Almeida from MakeUp-Barbie do a EOTD with it.

This palette is great to use for an easy smokey eye look (there is even a 3 step guide on the packaging). I also like that they are all neutral colours that I can mix with other eyeshadows.

NYX is worth checking out, I find that they are pretty good quality for the price. If you don’t have access to Groove or any other shop that sells NYX for that matter, there are plenty of Australian online stores that sell it, such as:

11 Apr

A not so exciting weekend… mainly involved getting stuff ready for the event next weekend (EEEEP) and clothes shopping. Went to a friend’s BBQ on saturday and spent Saturday night in reality TV heaven watching Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami season 2, finished that and got bored… so I decided to practice a smokey gold winged eyeliner look (without using tape… booyah!). So relieved I’ve got my outfit sorted for next weekend, found the most perfect black skirt at Dissh. So much so, I put the mustard colour of the same skirt on lay-by!¬†Sunday arvo I randomly decided to sweep the garage, wash my car and clean the inside, then cleaned my bathroom and went for a 5km run with “rock”star (that’s my nickname for Rocky my doggie). LOVE starting the new week all clean and organised!

Chic Cheeks

21 Mar

Ladies, let me introduce you to a company that has done a wonderful thing and created a product that will cut our make up spending in half!! (you’re going to want to stay tuned)

Introducing… Chic Australia!

This Aussie owned cosmetics brand was founded by make-up artist and beauty therapist Lois Yaghoubour, who launched the brand out of a personal passion to create an all-in-one product that would have the ability to leave one looking perfectly preened and beautiful all day without any touchups whatsoever. After in-depth research and development, Chic Baked Contour Powder was born, a 7-in-1 wonder product.

Chic Australia Baked Contour Powder features a lightweight, easily blended formula to define and sculpt the face and body for 12 hours of radiance. This long-lasting, dome shaped powder is slowly baked on a terracotta plate for 24 hours to reduce mess and includes light-reflecting pigments to highlight and contour the face and body for added luminosity. Formulated with liquid minerals, the powder includes mica, kaolin clay, mother of pearl, iron oxides, titanium dioxide and silica. It is versatile and travel-friendly, packaged in a convenient, stylish black compact with a handy mirror (of good size).

This product has 7 actions in 1 compact. It can be used as a blusher, bronzer, eyeshadow, lip colour, eyeliner, highlighter and contouring powder and can transform your complexion from drab to fab anytime! The powders produce a lightweight high frost finish that will accentuate your features for a natural radiant look.

There are eight different shades in the Chic Baked Contour Powder range, to suit every skin type and colour. The range of shades include everything from a pinkish highlight colour, a rosy blush colour, to your bronze colours (see range of colours below).

The shade that I have been using is BanksiaBloom (RRP $49.95 AUD), a deep cocoa colour with specks of gold for an even and natural tan glow. I found this shade to be perfect for everything from contouring and bronzing to a perfect coppery eye shadow. Even though the BanksiaBloom shade features a gold fleck throughout, the pigment is so finely milled and smooths on the skin so evenly that the result is natural and luminous. It’s great as a contour as it eliminates the need for a matte contour bronzer AND a highlighter – just apply this and go! Perfect for travelling when you’re forced to downsize your make up stash (OH the Horror!!). I also love that this baked powder is mess-free, unlike so many other bronzers that leave powder over every surface.

The below pictures show the colour swatched heavily on my hand with flash, applied under the cheekbones as a contour, and lastly, applied all over the eyes as an eye shadow.

Here are some other ways to use the Chic Baked Contour Powder:

Tip 1: Dust this shade lightly over your lipstick to accentuate your lips and give them a subtle glow.

Tip 2: Apply this shade with a big powder brush all over your decolletage to give the illusion of a nice bronzed tan without the fuss (and orange hands).

An added plus, Chic Australia does not test their products on animals. To find your nearest stockist click here and to find out more about Chic Australia visit their website – www.chicaustralia.com.au

Illamasqua Toxic Nature

20 Mar

On Thursday, Australia saw the much anticipated ‘Toxic Nature’ collection from Illamasqua hit stores. The idea for the collection was born when Creative Director Alex Box was stranded in Dubai during the Iceland volcano disaster, and it got her thinking of the rise in natural disasters and how it was Mother Nature’s way of fighting back and trying to rid herself of the toxic invaders that are the human race.

How Illamasqua describes the collection:

In retaliation against the genetically modified society that plunders it, the landscape has issued forth a torrent of hybrid shades. Corrupted hues glister amongst muted tones – extreme, intoxicating versions of their original selves.

This is an atomic-botanical environment where survival is key and camoflague by colour is the path to existence.

We scoured the abandoned toxic wastelands of the world to create an eclectic selection of corrupted hues for the eyes, lips, nails, face and body. Flitting effortlessly from poisonous pastel to hazardous neon, this cataclysmic mix of brave new tones take your look to the outer limits of nature’s palette.

Become a herald of the new age of Toxic Nature with uncharted night-time make-up.

The collection features two new sheer lipglosses in Divine (fuschia pink) and Torture (warm coral peach), 6 new cream pigments in Emerge (Peach), Bedaub (Mint), Dab (Lilac), Hollow (Toffee), Delirium (Rose Taupe), Mould (Grape), 5 new nail varnishes, two new lipsticks in Flare (a bright orange) and Atomic (a bright fuschia red) and a Precision Ink in Glister.

New Cream Pigment

The Toxic Nature collection has spawned a wild spray of corrupted colours and poisonous pastels in an intensely colour-rich, crease resistant, matte formula that introduces a brand new product to the Illamasqua range.

Six neo-toxic colour mutations create the ultimate in textures on your face, eyes, lips or body. Apply with an Illamasqua brush or simply use your fingers for a buildable, water resistant, highly pigmented finish. Layer under Powder Eye Shadow and Pure Pigments for intensity.

I was lucky enough to be sent the Cream Pigment in Delirium (the rose taupe colour) and I was over the moon! I love this colour… it’s so adaptable. You can use it all over your eye lids as a creaseless, waterproof base; you can even use it on your lips. Use to adorn eyes by applying with fingers or a brush for a buildable, matte, water resistant finish. Layer under powder eyeshadow for an intense effect.¬†I wore it as an all over base colour, on top of my M.A.C paint pot in Bare Study, and it didn’t move or crease all day. I applied it with my fingers and blended it out, then added powder eyeshadows over the top.¬†I can vouch for the crease free wear. This extrememly pigmented cream would be a great little number to have in your makeup stash to pop on before doing a smokey look of any kind.

Cream Pigments retail for AUD $44.00. Click here to find your nearest store location.

New Sheer Lipgloss

Come out of the shadows with a high-shine punch of sheer corrupted colour. Toxic Nature sees the rebirth of two candidly intoxicating elements of Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss; Torture and Divine. Super glossy, with a sensual, sheer colour designed to enhance your lips, use on its own for added pout or layer over lipstick for lips that mean business. I was sent the Sheer lipgloss in Divine – a deep fuschia pink – but don’t let the intensity of colour in the tube fool you, it applies sheer on the lips and gives a subtle pink sheen. The lipglosses have a pleasant scent (kind of like strawberries) and I find these to be less sticky than the intense lipglosses.

The above photo is the lipgloss applied alone with nothing underneath. I love the colour and I also find the formula to be quite hydrating.

Sheer Lipglosses retail for AUD $33.00. Click here to find your nearest store location.

Here is a FOTD featuring the Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Divine and the Illamasqua Cream Pigment in Delirium as an eye base with Napoleon Perdis Taupe eyeshadow in the outer corners, Napoleon Perdis Champagne loose dust above the crease, M.A.C Mega Metal eyeshadow in Top of the Posh all over inner lid and Napoleon Perdis White Gold loose dust in the inner corners of the eyes and brow bone to highlight.

playing with the new kid on the block

12 Feb

Last Saturday, Annica and I decided it was about time we check out the Illamasqua counter at Myer in the Brisbane Queen Street Mall and treat ourselves to a day of makeovers and retail therapy (and some scrumptious sushi thrown in for good measure). Illamasqua is relatively new to Australian shores and the response from bloggers nationwide is a resounding YIPEEE! We booked ourselves in to see Suzanne for a tour and a bit of a play.

After ‘ooooh’ing and ‘ahhh’ing over all the amazing make up, we both decided to pick out a few eye shadows that we normally wouldn’t go for and see what look Suzanne the MUA could create for us. Naturally I gravatate towards the more natural browns/taupes (typical smokey eye colours), so I decided to go for pastel pinks and purples.

Here is what was used for the eyes:

Powder eye shadow in Toxic

Powder eye shadow in Cancan

Powder eye shadow in Synth

Used as a highlighter on my brow bone and above the crease was Halcyon, an awesome liquid Illuminator

Finished off with liquid eyeliner and mascara, taadaaaa!… the finished¬†result on the eyes!

The face was touched up with the Rich Liquid Foundation in #200 and Powder Foundation in #210. Cheeks were contoured with Powder Foundation #325, gorgeous pale pink Powder blush in Nymph high on the cheekbones and bronzer to finish in Writhe.

Used on the lips was Lipstick in Over, a bright coral pink with a matt finish; and Intense Lipgloss in Mistress over the top. I loved Mistress (the intense lip gloss) and I bought it for myself.

Here is the overall finished result, I felt like I should have been attending a Miami beach party afterwards. The look was very bright but still suitable for the day time. Loved all the products used, and loved the finished result!

Annica and I all done up thanks to Suzanne at Illamasqua counter Brisbane.

I picked up a few products (reviews to come) and I really want to go back and get some more, especially that pale pink blush Nymph which was all sold out at the time ūüė¶

Everything is such high quality and highly pigmented. It would make a great addition to any make up lovers stash!
